The chapters

This story continues an earlier wave: Fort Hood shooter sentenced to execution by firing squad, 6 to 7 Oct 2026, 11 outlets.

The figures

Coverage: 98 outlets in 54 countries, across 5 regions. The article links are kept for good for every story that reaches the map. Of the 98 outlets, 6 state-owned, 10 public-service, 82 private. A count of countries is not a count of independent press systems.
Countries by region: Africa 4: Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa. Americas 13: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela. Asia-Pacific 13: Australia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam. Europe 19: Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom. Middle East 5: Israel, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates. The region a country’s press publishes from, as the feed list files it; the outlets that publish from no single country count as one country under International.
Languages: Czech, Danish, German, English, Spanish, French, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Swedish, Turkish, Uzbek, Vietnamese, Chinese.
Timeline: Earliest article El Sol de México, 8 Oct 2026, 17:22 UTC. First seen 8 Oct 2026, 20:40 UTC. Last seen 9 Oct 2026, 04:18 UTC. The earliest article is the earliest claimed publication time among the outlets Loudest reads, a claim rather than an observation and not a record of who broke the story (the data files call it the lead article); first seen is when Loudest first fetched an article of it, from which the running time counts.
Classification: Region Americas, United States. Topic Conflict & security. Hard news Judged hard news. On the map. Whether the story is hard news under the rule in the methodology, judged from its headlines by a model; a story judged outside the rule is left off the map and kept here. The region and country are where the story is about, not where it was covered.
Score: 41.93, as of now. One vote per general-press country and a smaller term for outlets, each counted from the moment it joined the story and fading on its own clock, so a late article does not renew the rest. A day in the archive keeps the score it was ranked by that day.
Chain: Continues Fort Hood shooter sentenced to execution by firing squad. Merged from 5 stories Pentagon chief says execution of military base shooter to be ‘public’; US to livestream first public execution by firing squad since World War II, says Hegseth; Execution of Fort Hood shooting perpetrator to be broadcast live; Fort Hood mass shooting perpetrator execution to be public; États-Unis : la mise à mort par peloton d'exécution de l'auteur d'une tuerie sur une base militaire en 2009 sera publique et diffusée en direct. A story continues another when it resembled it as it began, past that story’s own 48-hour box. A story merged from several was grouped from stories about the same event; each keeps its own headline and page, and the whole story counts every outlet and country once.
Day by day: Outlets and countries are the story’s whole life as of that midnight; the 24-hour columns are that day’s own coverage; the last column is the methodology version the day was measured under, and a day that spans a change of version shows the first and last, linked to the changelog that lists every version between. A day marked partial is one Loudest read only in part: fewer than 130 of its 144 ten-minute runs, or more than 30 minutes missed at its start or end.
